Emotional Therapy Counselling Services

Hi, my name is Aimee Booth.
There are two main counselling services that I offer.
Both of these are personalised to suit your needs following an initial discovery session.
See below to learn more about how I’ll work with you.
Discovery Session
Finding the right therapist is vital that is why I offer an initial free consultation. This initial discovery session is a crucial step to establishing a therapeutic relationship and setting the stage for effective treatment. It allows the opportunity for us to meet each other and to talk through any questions you may have. During this session we will explore your personal goals and discuss any other relevant information, such as:
- Background and History
- Presenting Concerns and Symptoms
- Treatment Goals and Expectations
- Therapeutic Approach and Modalities
- Logistics and Practical Considerations
The initial discovery session will be 50 minutes and serves as a foundation for building a strong therapeutic alliance, identifying treatment goals, and determining the most suitable course of action based on your needs. It is an opportunity to decide if you would like to continue with more sessions. This is a chance for you to decide if what I have to offer will be of help to you.
Emotional Therapy Counselling
Emotional Therapy Counselling, also known as ETC, is a holistic approach to psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals understand and process their emotions in a safe and supportive environment. As an ETC practitioner, I believe that emotions are central to our mental health and well-being, and that by understanding and working with our emotions, we can improve our overall mental health.
ETC draws on a variety of therapeutic techniques, including:
- Person-centred therapy: This approach emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the client’s self-direction. The therapist provides a safe and accepting space for the client to explore their thoughts and feelings.
- Emotion-focused therapy (EFT): This approach focuses on helping clients identify, understand, and express their emotions in a healthy way.
- Creative therapies: These therapies use art, music, movement, or other creative modalities to help clients express their emotions and explore their inner world.
I use ETC to help individuals with a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Trauma
- Relationship problems
- Low self-esteem
- Shame
ETC can be an effective treatment for these challenges because it helps individuals to:
- Develop a better understanding of their emotions
- Learn how to manage their emotions in a healthy way
- Improve their coping mechanisms
- Build stronger relationships
Walking Therapy
Walking therapy, also known as ambulation therapy or walk-and-talk therapy, is a form of psychotherapy that combines physical activity with traditional talk therapy. It involves walking outdoors with a therapist while discussing personal matters. Walking therapy is based on the idea that physical movement can promote emotional openness and well-being.
There are many potential benefits to walking therapy, including:
- Improved mood: Walking has been shown to release endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects.
- Reduced stress: Walking can help to reduce stress hormones and promote relaxation.
- Increased energy levels: Walking can help to increase energy levels and improve sleep quality.
- Enhanced cognitive function: Walking can improve cognitive function, including memory and focus.
- Strengthened therapeutic relationship: Walking together can create a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, which may make it easier for clients to open up to their therapist.
- Connection with nature: Walking outdoors can provide an opportunity to connect with nature, which has been shown to have a number of mental health benefits.
There is something about being out in the open and in the fresh air, regardless of the weather. That feeling of openness and space can not be replicated in a counselling room or on the phone.
Walking Therapy is a chance to walk and talk in the midst of nature; walking within the trees, along a beach or up one of the many beautiful hills that the nearby Peak District has to offer. Nature can help you in your emotional healing. It helps to reduce the feeling of isolation, it can help aid relaxation and it improves physical and mental well-being.
